Welcome to PEM Friends. who we are
PEM Friends is a patient support group for pemphigus and pemphigoid, based in the UK We are dedicated to providing support to people living with pemphigus or pemphigoid; including patients, family member and friends who care about and care for them.
PEM Friends offers support to those in the UK and beyond, so if you have pemphigus or pemphigoid, or if you know someone who does, then PEM Friends is for you.
This is the place to share personal stories, pose questions, and ask for and receive support and friendship. Remember, we've all been through what you're going through - so who better to chat with about your physical and emotional well-being. PEM Friends, an independent non-profit group, was established by our patron, Carolyn Blain, and is run by patients, for patients and their carers.
what we do
PEM Friends aims to:
• Provide support through friendship to those living with pemphigus and pemphigoid.
• Provide practical resources.
• Raise awareness of the needs of pemphigus and pemphigoid patients, helping to support everyone living with these diseases.
• Work in partnership with the International Pemphigus and Pemphigoid Foundation, and to contribute to developments internationally.
• Support research and innovation in the search for a more effective treatments and care.
We are an active and vibrant group with an e-mail list and discussion groups. Thanks to the caring support of its members, the medical community and the IPPF, PEM Friends is here to help patients and care givers alike.
Do remember to look under 'Resources' as there's a lot of advice about which foods will aggrevate the condition of one's mouth and which foods should be avoided altogether.
Coming Soon
Professor John Dart from Moorfields Eye Hospital in London is holding a 'by invitation' event on the 19 April 2013 and PEM Friends has been asked if up to two people could attend and do a short presentation about our organisation. Isobel Davies has kindly agreed to attend - and I can't think of anyone more suitable. One of our 'Friends', who himself is a doctor, may also attend. If he can't go, I will do my best to accompany Isobel. Carolyn
